The Chair Project seeks artists for upcoming silent auction fundraiser

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Local artists and members of the community are invited to activate their creativity for The Chair Project this summer. People who participate will design, redesign or alter a chair for a silent auction fundraiser.

Julie-Anna Carlisle, former owner of Milkweed in Hopkinsville, is facilitating the event for the second year. Last year’s art show displayed over 60 custom chairs with designs stemming from personal experiences, nature, mythology, Shakespeare, culture and more. All proceeds will once againbenefit Sanctuary Inc., which provides safety, shelter, resources and counseling for those fleeing domestic violence and sexual abuse.

The Chair Project last year focused on the theme of ‘support’ as artists put effort into building or altering a chair to be both functional and symbolic of support and rest. All chairs submitted will be judged for monetary prizes, which is being funded by outside sponsors. First prize will receive $300.

Chairs that follow the guidelines must be submitted by June 12. Each chair must be an artsy, functional design that can be used to sit on or hold something. No beach, lawn or plastic chairs are permitted, and entries must have clear elements of alterations done by the artist…
