A 67-year-old disabled woman was found lying on a couch, unable to move and surrounded by filth, when Cheatham County authorities descended on a Chapmansboro home on August 25 to investigate reports of deplorable conditions and suspected abuse. Deputies say they pulled 10 animals from the property and moved the woman to safety, while two residents now face criminal charges tied to both her care and the treatment of the dogs inside.
The welfare check began after an anonymous caller reported the situation to animal control, according to WKRN News 2. When Cheatham County Animal Control officers arrived, they entered a home with broken windows, garbage, and a foul odor, per the station’s reporting. Outside, law enforcement discovered a yard littered with old tires, children’s toys, bags of trash, yard equipment, and household appliances.
Inside, animal control personnel found six adult dogs along with four puppies that reportedly had a flea infestation, according to the outlet. Several of the adult dogs were malnourished, and some may have cut themselves on broken glass inside the home, Cheatham County Animal Control’s Chris Gilmore told the station. The puppies, by contrast, were described as being in good health overall.
