Despite the excessive heat, butterfly lovers across the region traveled to Oak Grove to witness the release of thousands of Monarch Butterflies at Saturday’s 18th annual Butterfly Festival.
The award-winning festival first took over Oak Grove War Memorial Walking Trail Park in 2008, and around 300 butterflies were released. Since then, the festival has grown greatly, and on Saturday, nearly 3,000 butterflies took flight.
Oak Grove Tourism Events and Public Relations Manager Scarlet Mayfield has been on the planning side of the festival for the past five years and says it has grown to include more activities and educational opportunities each year…
