Following the Clarksville Tornado which happened late last year around Dec. 9th, The Montgomery County Assessor of Property, Erinnie Hester persuades those affected by the unfortunate incident to fill out a tornado damage assessment survey to find out if they owe as much this year in property tax. The purpose of a damage assessment survey is to precisely estimate property value tax for the year 2024, this was stated by Hester earlier this week before the County Commissioner.
She pointed out that the damage assessment for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) is different from an assessment for property valuation. The FEMA goals and determinations from work with FEMA and APSU are readily available. Still, the current challenge is the adequate information to estimate property for tax for someone to pay, which is what they are working on.
Hester went further to illustrate that if a property shifted from its foundation by an inch or two, her office wouldn’t be able to notice this change in position just by walking around or by areal geometry but the tornado victim can provide such information.
