31 boys and 39 girls from the Clarksville area advanced to next week’s TSSAA individual state tournament in Franklin. In addition, 16 area wrestlers — four boys and 12 girls — won individual section or region championships this week.
Boys in Class A and Class AA competed in section tournaments, while girls, who are all in the same classification, competed in region tournaments. The top four finishers in each sectional and regional qualified for state.
The Class A and Class AA boys tournaments, as well as the girls tournament, will take place Feb. 23-24 at the Williamson County Ag & Expo Center.
Montgomery Central will send a whopping 18 wrestlers — nine boys and nine girls — to Franklin, leading the way among area teams. Reese Levendusky won the Section 4-A championship at 144 pounds, while Gracie Turberville (107) and Cearyona O’Connor (165) claimed region championships as well.
Clarksville’s girls team won the Region 4 title, with Central second, Northwest third and West Creek fourth. The Wildcats had 10 state qualifiers, led by region champ Miranda Robles at 100 pounds.
