Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is introducing a new health and wellness initiative proving the community with a low-impact exercise option.
Starting Oct. 22, Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a Tai Chi for Arthritis program, which has been proven to reduce pain, improve quality of life and help prevent falls, a press release said.
“Six in 10 adults in the United States suffer from one or more chronic conditions, including arthritis, which affects many people in Clarksville,” said Jennifer Letourneau, Director of Clarksville Parks and Recreation. “This grant from NRPA and the CDC allows us to provide a new resource for older adults and anyone seeking to improve their overall health and wellness. Tai Chi for Arthritis is a gentle but effective way to stay active and manage chronic conditions.”
Clarksville is one of 35 agencies nationwide to receive a Supporting Healthy Aging Through Parks and Recreation Association (SHARP) 3.0 grant from National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), with funding support from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (DCD).
