License plate readers are popping up in cities across Middle Tennessee.
Brentwood, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Murfreesboro and Waverly are a few of the more recent among more than 40 law enforcement agencies across Middle Tennessee adding License Plate Reader camera technology as of March.

Some communities have had the technology for longer periods, like Mt. Juliet, Lebanon, Hendersonville and Gallatin.
Nashville temporarily introduced license plate readers in 2023 for a six-month pilot program, though long-term use of license plate readers remains undecided and controversial.

Soon, the City of Springfield will be joining the list.
Flock Safety: A holistic solution to crime
During a Springfield Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting on Oct. 15, city officials unanimously voted in favor of a contract with Flock Safety, Inc. of Atlanta, GA to install license plate readers across the city.
