At least three Hopkinsville organizations — Breaking Bread Community Dinner Church, Pioneers Inc. and Salvation Army — have plans to provide free Thanksgiving meals to local residents in need.
Members of Pioneers will provide carry-out meals at the front door of its complex, 902 N. Main St., from 10 a.m. until noon on Thanksgiving Day. A men’s community service organization that raises funds through its catering service, Pioneers has provided free Thanksgiving meals for more than 38 years, club chairman William Brown said in a letter announcing plans for this year’s meal.
“We began with feeding approximately 150 servings,” Brown wrote. “We are now providing between 700 and 800 servings each Thanksgiving, and it is the highlight of our community service.”
Volunteers for Community Dinner Church will provide carry-out meals beginning at 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the Aaron McNeil House, 604. E. Second St.
Donna Williams, who established the dinner church in 2019, said she’s expecting to serve at least 400 meals. Her program, which runs entirely on donations and volunteers, provides an afternoon meal every Thursday.
