‘Operation Silent Night’ in animal shelters across Middle Tennessee

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — It’s an annual tradition with animal shelters across Middle Tennessee: “Operation Silent Night.” In December, shelters teamed up in hopes of giving their animals the holiday they deserve.

The goal of every animal shelter is to be empty, but during the holidays that is even more important. Each year the Cheatham County Animal Center, Williamson County Animal Center, Maury County Animal Center and Metro Animal Care and Control team up to make it happen.

“Our goal is for the shelters to be silent on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The benefit is our staff get to take a little break and not have so many animals to care for during the holidays so they can spend more time with their families,” said Ondrea Johnson, the director at Williamson County Animal Center. “But also, the real winner in that situation is the animals, because a lot of times when animals get out into foster over the holidays, we get a lot of cute pictures back from the foster we get stories about how the animals spent their holiday and it helps adopters to be able to envision the animal in their own home, versus having to see them behind a kennel door.”
