CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Parks and Recreation has reopened the L&N Train Station after several months of restoration. The event marked the return of the station to allow visitors to learn more about the history of the railroad in the city.
Mayor Joe Pitts thanked the City Council, Parks and Recreation and city employees, along with the many organizations, businesses and individuals for their support of the restoration project. “It’s all about preservation, but not just in our history, but remembering the legacy of our city and its place in this nation,” Pitts said.
Montgomery County Historian Carolyn Ferrell said she remembers as a young child the passenger trains that used to pass through Clarksville. She said her kindergarten class, probably around 1959, took a train ride to Guthrie, Kentucky.
“I can remember the crowds of people that would be down here. The excitement of people welcoming people home, tears of people departing, and just the hustle and bustle of what this area down here was. Look at what we have; we are so proud of that,” Ferrell said…
