HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Temperatures will peak today at 94 degrees as the heat index is estimated to reach 105 degrees in Christian County. The National Weather Service in Paducah is predicting that the heat index will not drop below triple digits until Monday, June 30.
Amid these extreme temperatures as people crank up the air conditioning, Hopkinsville Electric System & EnergyNet along with the TVA are advising that residents monitor their energy consumption to help reduce the load on the grid. Small reductions like turning off unneeded lights and devices and postponing the use of appliances can make a difference. Keeping the blinds closed during peak sun hours also helps block extra heat and reduce cooling costs, according to HES.
“These small voluntary reductions by each of TVA’s millions of customers can have a huge impact on overall energy usage and help us avoid stressing our generation and transmission grid and maintain reliability,” said a statement from HES. “Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Stay safe in this heat. Stay hydrated and check on your family, friends, neighbors and pets.”…
