Popular East Coast convenience store and gas station, Wawa is coming to
with two new stores breaking ground this month. Here’s everything we know.
Wawa’s First Tennessee Locations
Popular for its hoagies, WAWA shared earlier this month its plans to open the company’s first stores in Tennessee.
How Wawa Got Its Start
Wawa is a one-stop shop for fuel, food, coffee, and more. The company first got its start as an iron foundry in New Jersey before owner George Wood found interest in dairy farming. Eventually, when home delivery for milk began to slow in the 1960s, Wood’s grandson expanded the family dairy farm into a food market.
Wawa by the Numbers
Currently, Wawa has over 1100 stores in eleven states, plus Washington, DC, employing 47,000 people. The chain serves over 1 billion customers, with more than 182 million cups of coffee brewed and more than 183 million built-to-order hoagies and sandwiches made each year. They even offer surcharge-free ATMs.
