Clarksville Celebrates 35 Years of ADA with Proclamation and Accessibility Initiatives

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) celebrated a milestone anniversary in Clarksville this month, marking 35 years of progress and ongoing advocacy for people with disabilities. Diedra Gobin, Director of Operations for The Tennessee Disability Coalition, was honored at City Hall last Wednesday, July 2, with a proclamation championing the ADA’s triumphs and highlighting local commitment to the cause. Mayor Joe Pitts stood as the city’s representative in affirming its adherence to both the ADA and the principles of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) alongside Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as per the City of Clarksville announcement.

Clarksville’s proactive stance toward inclusion and accessibility has seen tangible applications, most notably through its Accessibility Enhancement Capital Project launched in 2023.
