Documentary Screening planned at Montgomery Bell State Park July 17

Frederick Murphy, a descendant of Dickson County ancestors, a documentarian and founder of History Before Us, is excited to announce an upcoming screening of his latest documentary Echoes of The Forks of Cypress at Montgomery Bell State Park on July 17.

Murphy shared, “This film explores the largely unacknowledged stories of enslaved African Americans who labored at iron furnaces across Middle Tennessee including the Cabin Row ( and others) community and traces their connection to the Forks of Cypress Plantation in Florence, Alabama.”

Echoes of The Forks of Cypress not only illuminates an overlooked chapter of regional history but also highlights the present-day efforts of descendants, who are coming together to confront their shared past. Through reimagining the plantation grounds and its burial sites as places of remembrance and reflection, the film reveals a deep and ongoing journey toward collective healing and understanding…
