Zachary Lee Mowel, 29, will undergo a psychiatric evaluation and possibly have his indictments amended, as discussed in a status hearing held in the Cheatham County Circuit Court on July 8.
According to a document filed with the court June 20, Mowel was ordered to undergo a forensic evaluation to establish his competency to stand trial and his mental condition at the time of the alleged crime for a possible insanity and diminished capacity defense. The evaluation will be conducted by Dr. Donna Moore of Moore Psychology Services.
Making national news last July, Mowel was arrested after allegedly beating and stabbing his then-estranged now ex-wife Tessa Trotter in front of their two young sons before setting her on fire and leaving the home with the two children. Trotter was rescued by neighbors…
