Hospital expansions approved in Clarksville

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Healthcare access is set to more than double in Clarksville. Ascension Saint Thomas and TriStar Health, an HCA Healthcare affiliate, both have the official go-ahead to build new hospitals in the area.

The Tennessee Health Facilities Commission approved separate healthcare Certificates of Need (CONs) on Wednesday, July 23 for Ascension Saint Thomas and TriStar Health, but another large healthcare provider argued their arrival will do more harm than good. Representatives for Tennova Healthcare, the operator of Clarksville’s only hospital, argued that new medical centers are not only unnecessary, but they would take resources away from the current hospital.

“Allowing both of these projects to move forward, allowing both of these projects to take critical resources in nursing and physicians, will do nothing but disrupt the care, and there are not enough patients to support all of these projects moving forward,” Travis Swearingen from Tennova Healthcare said.
