Nashville and Middle Tennessee on High Alert as Extreme Heat Warning Issued

The National Weather Service in Nashville issued an extreme heat warning today, cautioning residents of Middle Tennessee about dangerously high temperatures that could lead to increased heat-related illnesses. In effect until 8 PM CDT Wednesday, the warning indicates that the heat index values could climb up to an oppressive 113 degrees. The areas affected include cities such as Nashville, Franklin, Murfreesboro, and Clarksville.

According to the latest forecast, the sweltering conditions are created by clear skies and calm winds, which are expected to persist into the following days. Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, seek out air-conditioned environments, avoid direct sunlight, and check in on those who might be particularly vulnerable in these conditions. “Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events,” states the NWS advisory.

Temperatures are expected to hover around the high 90s throughout the week, with Tuesday’s high nearing 99 degrees and a staggering heat index of 115. Evenings will offer little reprieve, with low temperatures around the mid to high 70s.
