OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At the Oak Grove City Council meeting, the police department shared statistics about the high number of vehicles driving through the city on a monthly basis, along with how many hours officers have recently spent dealing with people under the influence of alcohol.
Within the last month, around 669,000 vehicles drove through the city. Oak Grove PD was able to collect this information by utilizing flock cameras in the city, according to Assistant Chief Victor Lynch. On July 11 alone, 30,000 vehicles drove through. The slowest day was July 12, which still saw 13,000 vehicles.
Time spent on DUI arrests in Oak Grove, regulatory fees
Lynch told the councilmembers that the department spent around 30 hours dealing with individuals who were driving under the influence of alcohol in the last month. This accounts for the time spent initiating a traffic stop and transporting them to the Christian County Jail. In conjunction with this, officers spent a total of 55 hours on alcohol related court time.
“The reason we track all of the alcohol activity the way we do is the city currently charges a 3% regulatory fee for alcohol sales for the City of Oak Grove,” added Oak Grove Police Chief Dennis Cunningham. “In order for us to justify that money, that percentage, we have to show how much activity is actually being involved with alcohol or alcohol related cases, and that’s how we track it.”…
