HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The City of Hopkinsville is working to reduce the amount of vehicles, merchandise, and other items that block walkways on public sidewalks. They aim to keep sidewalks free of obstruction to ensure safer and more accessible walking paths.
In a public service announcement released by the city, their statement is clear, “Sidewalks are for walking, not for blocking.” As this issue is being prioritized, Hopkinsville Public Works will issue courtesy notices for a first offense, and repeat violations may result in fines up to $500 and/or vehicle towing at the owner’s expense.
These regulations are set out it city ordinance 99.10, which reads, “It shall be unlawful for any person to maintain any obstruction across, over or upon the streets, alleys or sidewalks of the city for the purpose of displaying or exposing to view for sale any articles of merchandise or to maintain an obstruction or encroachment of any kind without first having obtained authority from the city or its designee to do so.”…
