New in Christian County schools this year: Phone pouches for high schoolers, no private messaging

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With students arriving to classes on Aug. 18, there are new regulations in place for Christian County Public Schools to keep in mind. This includes a cell phone ban and prohibited electronic communication between teachers/staff and students.

CCPS students will not be permitted to use cell phones and electronic devices during instructional hours this school year. For high schoolers, devices will be housed inside a locked Yondr pouch. The bag will remain in the possession of the student and will not be unlocked until the end of the school day. This process has already been in use leading up to the school year with summer school students. Middle school students will be required to surrender phones to their advisory teacher.

This change is due to the passing of House Bill 208, leaving the Christian County Board of Education legally obligated to comply with the regulations set out in the legislation. To help with a smooth transition, parents are being asked to refrain from calling or texting students during the school day.
