100th Alsobrooks Reunion to be held

In 1925, the children of Isham A. Alsobrooks and Josephine King Alsobrooks decided they needed to put aside one day a year to fellowship together as a family. This tradition has carried on through the generations. On Aug. 31 at noon, the Alsobrooks family will celebrate their 100th family reunion in the fellowship hall of Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 88 Campground Road in Erin, TN.

This church has seen many family milestones. It has also been the reunion site since the mid 1980s, except for a couple of years after the church was damaged by the flood of 2010. Prior to that, the reunion was held at the home of family members. Attendance held at around 100 members until the 1990s when it dropped to around 60 members. In the last 25 years, attendance has continued to decline with only 13 attendees in 2024. The family will vote this year on whether they continue the yearly reunion.

Houston County is still the home to many of the descendants of Isham and Josephine. Their children were Mary C, James H, “Nep’”PF, “Bet” SE, Billy, Wiley, Ella and George. The Pollard Branch area of Houston County is the family homeplace and where the family cemetery is located. Historically, most reunion attendees are from the George and Kitty branch of the family. The family encourages everyone to research your family history because you may be a descendant of Isham and Josephine Alsobrooks…
