New Fort Campbell Middle School opens on post

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (WKRN) — The new Fort Campbell Middle School is serving over 600 kids on post at Fort Campbell.

The new $62 million middle school is located on South Carolina Avenue. It replaces Mahaffey Middle School, which was built back in 1967.

The new principal for Fort Campbell Middle School, Alissa Richards, said students were packed in the old building. Students, faculty and staff were operating in smaller classrooms and hallways daily.

With the transition to the new middle school building, they are operating on almost three times as many square feet. Richards says the kids have bigger classroom space and more classroom opportunities, like videography, broadcasting Spanish and creative writing. She says before, the opportunities didn’t exist due to the landscaping of the location. But now, students even have the ability to learn outdoor STEM with the schools new solar panels…
