CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – City Council approved a zoning change on Trenton Road and a plan to buy land for affordable housing, along with its legislative agenda.
Rezoning of old trailer park
The council approved a zoning change for four parcels on Trenton Road, about 450 feet north of Fairview Lane. The request, filed by Todd Morris, rezones the land from R-1 single-family residential to R-4 multiple-family residential and C-5 highway and arterial commercial. Council member Tim Chandler cast the only vote against it.
The rezoning makes way for mixed-use development on the site of a rundown trailer park, where developers have proposed building a strip center and up to 123 apartments.
Affordable housing for tornado victims
The council also approved on second reading an ordinance allowing the mayor, or a designee, to negotiate and purchase property for affordable housing. The city will partner with the Appalachian Service Project to develop the site. The measure passed unanimously.
This is the city’s second partnership with ASP this year. The nonprofit is already working with the city to build three homes for families who lost theirs in the December 2023 tornado, with this latest parcel expected to add three more, bringing the total to six.
