Town of Dover Approves Annexing Property

The Town of Dover Board of Mayor and Aldermen met Sept., 8 with all members present. First on the agenda were comments from the public. Jade Porter addressed the board. “I’m here to speak on the annexation of the property next door. My family owns the Dixieland Cabins, a rental business directly next door being considered for the subdivision or annexation. I’m here tonight not just as a business owner, but as a person in the community who deeply cares about growth and how it’s managed. I want to highlight several concerns that we’ve seen in the area. Our quiet enjoyment of our property, our cabins, rental drives on peace and quiet. Guests come here for the tranquility of this area, again if the subdivision is built right next door, there will be constant construction, and guests won’t be able to enjoy their time here. The proposed subdivision would funnel dozens of cars into the area and there’s no turn lane. That area is super unsafe as it is right now with people coming and going, turning right or turning left.” Porter also said they have a problem with flooding and construction would cause water to come on their property.

Next, Police Chief Scott Bickford gave the police report for August, stating they made 172 traffic stops and issued 90 citations, had 15 arrests for DUI and drug charges and answered 146 complaints. He said Officer Jody Batton and K9 Shelby attended several events in the community. They held a hot dog fundraiser for a city employee with family medical issues and raised $600. He said Brien Dill of Piggly Wiggly donated hot dogs.

Fire Captain Jonathan Crockarell gave the fire report for August, saying they had eight calls for service. “We did have a notable incident. We got called for a boating accident down at Lick Creek just outside of the outlet there. A boat was traveling and struck I guess a submerged object or a log or something. They reported there were some people injured on the boat. They had some boaters that came by with jet skis and a boat to actually pick the people up. That just goes to show why we’re trying to build up this water rescue side of the fire department, there are incidents happening in the city.” Crockarell also said next month is fire prevention month and they have four events planned throughout the county and the city has free smoke detectors available for the public at City Hall. For the next item of business, all members voted to approve annexing the property across from the Dollar Tree on Donelson Parkway, owned by KMG Properties…
