Flags have been lowered to half-staff across the county until Saturday to honor of Arnold ‘Dutch’ Simpkins, Cheatham County’s last surviving World War II veteran who passed away on October 8.
Simpkins was 101 years old and served his country as a member of the U.S. Army from 1943 – 1946 during World War II and then three years in the National Guard.
