Life in a one-room ‘Promise Land’ schoolhouse in Dickson County

CHARLOTTE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Shortly after the end of the Civil War, freed African-Americans in Dickson County established the Promise Land community.

Promise Land encompassed 1,000 acres of Charlotte, Tennessee and included 50 homes, several stores, two churches and a one-room schoolhouse.
