1 brought to hospital following fire at Hopkinsville nursing home

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN)  — A blaze broke out in a Hopkinsville nursing home early Friday morning, which led to the evacuation of more than a dozen residents.

Hopkinsville Fire/EMS said it was notified about a fire inside a resident’s room at Bradford Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the 900 block of Highpoint Drive at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.

According to officials, personnel arrived within three minutes and confirmed there was a fire inside the bedroom, so facility staff evacuated the residents. First responders immediately started battling the blaze and helping to make sure all residents were safe and accounted for.

The department said a total of 16 residents were evacuated to another part of the facility. Meanwhile, EMS reportedly brought one resident to the hospital due to chest pains — which were not related to the fire — and assessed staff members for smoke inhalation.

Officials believe the blaze started because of an issue with the room’s wall-mounted heating and cooling unit. No first responder injuries were reported following the fire, which was confined to the room of origin.

“We’d like to commend the staff of Bradford Heights for their quick and well-coordinated efforts in evacuating residents and helping to confine the fire to the bedroom,” Hopkinsville Fire/EMS wrote on Facebook. “Their swift actions certainly were a difference maker.”…
