Ascension Saint Thomas spotlights soldiers bridging military service, community care

NASHVILLE, TN – Ascension Saint Thomas is highlighting the continued service of military members who extend their mission to protect and care for others through emergency medical training. Two active-duty Fort Campbell soldiers, Ivan Shao and Austin Potter, are advancing their commitment to service through EMT training at Ascension Saint Thomas Emergency Medical Services.

Ivan and Austin participate in the U.S. Army Career Skills Program (CSP), which allows soldiers to gain civilian work experience, certifications, and hands-on training during their final 120 days of service. Through CSP, they build healthcare skills that will support them well beyond their military careers. Ascension Saint Thomas supports CSP by offering a structured pathway that helps service members prepare for careers as they transition into roles that strengthen their communities.

For Ivan, EMT training builds directly on the medical skills he developed in combat. “Before leaving the military, I wanted to take advantage of opportunities through CSP to become more proficient at keeping people alive,” he said…
