Two years after deadly tornado outbreak, Hendersonville business owner reflects on recovery efforts

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Dec. 9, 2023, a deadly tornado outbreak hit Middle Tennessee, killing three people in Madison and three people in Clarksville. In Hendersonville, the storm damaged 136 businesses, according to the city’s Chamber of Commerce.

Pony Mailbox and Business Center on West Main was one of the Hendersonville businesses damaged from the tornado.  While the strong winds tore off the roof, business owner Tommy Oldham said he still considers himself lucky.

“[I’m] just thankful that nobody got hurt,” Oldham told News 2.

Oldham said he was watching the weather forecast at his Gallatin home; the business had closed for the day. In security footage from that day, you could see a man hired to clean carpets inside the store looked outside to see the storm roll in. That man then hid in the back room with packing peanuts as the tornado comes through…
