HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Inmates in the Substance Abuse Program (SAP) at the Christian County Jail created hand crafted ornaments that were delivered to a local assisted living facility ahead of Christmas.
“This initiative emphasizes the positive impact our inmate population can have when they become productive societal contributors, despite past mistakes,” said a statement from the Christian County Jail.
“I think doing service projects like this are important because it teaches inmates to think of others and to see what doing good does for others,” said Smith. “We constantly look for ways to help inmates become better versions of themselves. Sometimes that is through tough love, if you will, and other times it’s through projects like this.
Through additional community collaborations throughout the year, select inmates at the jail are given the opportunity through their workforce program, which allows them to engage with nonprofits and government agencies.
