Clarksville nonprofit seeks community input on proposed year-round homeless shelter

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Clarksville nonprofit is asking for community feedback as it considers expanding homeless services and opening the city’s first year-round homeless shelter.

Clarksville Area Urban Ministries is working with the City of Clarksville on a proposal that would significantly expand services for people experiencing homelessness. The plan includes purchasing a building using federal U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant funding at an estimated cost of $700,000.

If approved, the nonprofit would operate the facility and provide services throughout the year, rather than only during periods of extreme weather, which is how emergency sheltering currently operates in the city…
