City of Clarksville responds to questions about homeless services ordinance

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The City of Clarksville is responding to growing public concern and what it calls misinformation surrounding a proposed ordinance involving homeless services ahead of a City Council meeting.

In a statement released this week, city officials clarified details about an ordinance that would authorize the City of Clarksville to purchase a property known as The Well, located at 224 Union Street, and partner with Clarksville-Area Urban Ministries to expand services at the site.

According to the city, the ordinance does not create a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week homeless shelter and does not introduce a new homeless population into downtown. Officials say the proposal focuses on improving and consolidating services that are already being provided in the downtown and Madison Street corridor.
