Development boom in Oak Grove leads to future traffic concerns for Walter Garrett Lane

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Talks regarding expanding a portion of Walter Garrett Lane were initiated during the Jan. 20 Oak Grove City Council meeting. An influx in traffic is anticipated near this intersection by Highway 115 due to upcoming business developments in the area.

“We need to get that widened. The sooner, the better.” said Councilmember Edward Cook, who initiated the discussion. At the end of 2025 an auto auction dealership broke ground off of Walter Garrett Lane near Exit 89, and Christian County’s only dispensary will also open soon on that same roadway. These two developments along with the future Buc-ee’s nearby will drastically increase the number of cars that will travel off of Exit 89.

Cook proposed that the addition of a four way stop or traffic light at the intersection of 115 may also be necessary in the future. The entire length of the roadway extends for multiple miles through farmland, connecting Fort Campbell Boulevard to the interstate.

The city’s current road aid funds would not cover the cost of widening a portion of the road, with additional grant money necessary to get the project moving. However, applying for grants may not be possible without current evidence of heavy traffic…
