Christian County braces for snow, wind chill hits negative temperatures

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Winter Storm Warning and Cold Weather Advisory are currently in place for Christian County. The wind chill on Jan. 24 has dropped the temperature down to -11 degrees in the county, with five to eight inches of snow anticipated over the next two days.

Periods of heavy sleet are also possible, mainly Saturday evening through midday Sunday, with some freezing rain possible locally.

Snow prep efforts, local resources

Ahead of the incoming snow, Hopkinsville Public Works pre-treated city roadways with salt in an effort to prevent ice from bonding to the pavement. KYTC also spent the week ensuring that state highways in Christian County would be resistant to snow and ice.

Linemen with Hopkinsville Electrical System & EnergyNet are standing by 24/7 to aid in possible emergencies during the storm. In a statement, HES reminded community members that they can report power outages by calling or texting 877-564-7250. An up-to-date outage map is also available on the HES website…
