Middle Tennessee got blasted by Winter Storm Fern the last weekend of January, and first responders were not immune to the treacherous road conditions the storm left in its path. The challenges experienced by first responders reflect how far-reaching the adverse effects of snow and ice can be – even for those whose goal it is to keep everyone safe.
Cheatham County Emergency Medical Service (CCEMS) battled the conditions this first hand when attempting to answer calls in the southern half of the county. CCEMS Director B.J. Hudspeth told the Cheatham County Exchange one ambulance dispatched to the Ranchettes subdivision became stuck on a hill on Chickadee Trail.
After sliding down the hill, the ambulance came to rest on the left side of the road. After the emergency medical crew exited the ambulance, attempts to move the unit were unsuccessful. Hudspeth said a wrecker came to assess the situation but advised the ambulance could not be moved due to the dangerous road conditions…
