Skits and Bits: East Hills Restaurant founder dies in 1980

“Skits and Bits” – Little Bits of News and History – Some you may remember, some you may have forgotten and some you may have never heard of before; but all of which took place somewhere, sometime, throughout the years.

February 18, 1892- A lamb was born on the farm of James A. McCord at Ewing, Kentucky, with eight legs, two heads, two tails, and one body otherwise. Old timer farmers in the community said it was the oddest looking baby sheep they had ever seen.

February 18, 1930- Bernard Walter, a fastball pitcher from Dover, Tennessee, left for spring training with the Pittsburgh Pirates major league baseball team. Walter, along with Tommy Bridges, pitched for the Tennessee Vols at UT in 1929. Bridges signed with the Detroit Tigers after graduating from UT.

February 18, 1951- Four Alabama convicts escaped and fled to Dickson County. They were captured by Dickson County Sheriff Warren Hill and his deputies…
