Army names new aircraft MV-75 Cheyenne II, coming to Fort Campbell by 2030

FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The newest Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft for the U.S. Army that was previously announced at Fort Campbell officially has a name. Keeping with the tradition of naming aircrafts after Native American Tribes, it will be called the MV-75 Cheyenne II.

The 101st Combat Aviation Brigade of Fort Campbell, Kentucky was previously chosen as the first unit to field the helicopter, with an expected arrival in 2030. The announcement of the name came as part of the 2026 Army Aviation Warfighting Summit hosted by the Army Aviation Association of America in Nashville, Tennessee on April 15.

A news release from the U.S. Army says the designation continues a 79-year tradition for naming. Cheyenne was chosen based on the tribes’ historical displays of the aircraft’s key attributes.

Officials stated the Army considered more than 500 tribes and solicited feedback from organizations responsible for the aircraft’s development and delivery. While many tribes were researched, they found that the aircraft characteristics of speed, range, adaptability, and self-deplorability mirrored the historical strengths of the Cheyenne tribes…
