Dickson County’s Rosie Riveter Leigh Walker honored at National War World II Museum

Dickson County is home to a national treasure – and her name is Leigh Walker.

A resident of Burns, Mrs. Walker is a Rosie the Riveter who served her country during World War II in a unique and essential way.

Walker was one of six million women who were encouraged by the government to take over jobs previously held by men who were called to service in the war. Those women who made vital contributions on the home front during World War II became known as “Rosie the Riveter.” The name originated from a 1940s song written about women workers in the wartime defense industry…
