Teacher Tasha Berry and her husband, Craig Berry, a retired special forces veteran, lived together in Tennessee and seemed to have a happy marriage. On May 1, 2026, their perfect couple image was shattered when Craig Berry allegedly beat and shot his wife, then fled. Tasha Berry miraculously survived the brutal attack, and the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office immediately began searching for Craig Berry. As the teacher continues to fight for her life, her husband apparently opted to take the easy way out.
Deputies responded to the couple’s home around 1 a.m.
The sheriff’s office announced that Craig Berry was wanted for a domestic assault and the shooting of his wife in the early morning hours of May 1. Deputies began searching for him near 133 Old Paris Highway around 1 a.m. They took Tasha Berry to a hospital for treatment. Authorities considered her husband armed and extremely dangerous.
Craig Berry had a unique set of skills.
According to a release from the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement knew finding Craig Berry could be a challenge. His special forces training could give him an advantage.
“Berry is a retired special forces veteran and has extensive training in survival tactics. He is an excellent swimmer and diver, and is in good physical shape. He is armed with at least one handgun and is believed to have taken extra ammunition. He was last seen near River Trace Road and was tracked by K-9’s on River Trace Road,” the sheriff’s department shared in a post on social media. “It is believed he does not possess a phone or any other means of communication at this time. According to a trail camera photo, he was wearing some form of camouflage clothing.”
On May 6, following a search by both local law enforcement and officers from the US Marshals Service, the sheriff’s department shared they found Craig Berry dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
