Former Clarksville lawyer sentenced for stealing $70K+

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A former Clarksville attorney who pleaded guilty to stealing money from his law firm’s clients’ trust account was sentenced Thursday.

According to 19th Judicial District Attorney General Robert Nash, the charges against Joel D. Ragland stemmed from a lengthy investigation by a Clarksville Police Department detective, who worked with two firm partners — Eric Yow and Andrea Goble — to determine what funds were taken by the former associate attorney and when he did it.

During Ragland’s sentencing hearing on Thursday, May 14, Nash said the firm partners testified, along with their spouses, Erin Yow and General Sessions Court Judge Kenneth Goble Jr., about the effect of the crime on their firm and their families.

Circuit Court Judge William Goodman III sentenced Ragland to eight years, Nash said, adding that at least one year must be behind bars while the remaining seven years are served on probation supervised by the Tennessee Department of Correction.
