Clearwater Weighs City-Owned Electric Service as Duke Energy Deal Expires

Clearwater officials are considering whether to replace Duke Energy with a city-run electric utility. The 30-year franchise agreement between both parties ended in December 2025. An appraisal commissioned by the city put the power company’s assets at $265 million.

City Council will review the appraisal on July 16.
