ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — OneBlood officials said blood donations in the area have improved after a summer decline that coincided with the American Red Cross declaring its second-ever national blood supply crisis in late July.
The Red Cross said extreme heat, poor air quality and widespread food-borne illnesses contributed to lower donor turnout. OneBlood officials said they also saw a significant decline during the summer as many regular donors were on vacation.
