A Florida man is warning others after he came dangerously close to wiring away $300,000 when a caller posing as a sheriff’s official sent him a fake warrant and convinced him he could be arrested.

While working, Largo resident Ben Wagner received a call from someone who said he was “Chief Hobbs” with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Fox 13 News reported. The caller said Wagner could be arrested over a missed jury summons.
Wagner said he tried to verify the claim by searching the names online after the caller sent what appeared to be warrant documents. The paperwork was fake, but it used Wagner’s real name and included charges and the sheriff’s name.
According to Wagner, the caller would not let the conversation end, directing him toward the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office on Ulmerton Road and saying a gag order prevented him from telling anyone what was going on…
