TAMPA, Fla. — Two Tampa men have been sentenced to federal prison in connection with the fatal fentanyl overdose of a University of South Florida freshman, federal prosecutors announced Friday.
U.S. District Judge John Badalamenti sentenced Miguel Cintron, 38, to life in prison, while 23-year-old Darrius Gustafson received a sentence of 21 years and 10 months. A federal jury convicted both men on May 4, 2026, of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death. U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the sentences.
According to trial evidence, testimony, and court records, Cintron, Gustafson, and two other co-defendants distributed the lethal dose of fentanyl that killed the student.
