ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A bicyclist is dead after St. Petersburg police said he ran a stop sign and collided with a Jeep on Friday afternoon.
At 2:30 p.m., 51-year-old Jason Newberry was riding an electric bicycle down 59th Street South heading southbound.

As Newberry approached the intersection of 7th Avenue South, police said he failed to stop at the stop sign. He then collided with the passenger side door of a Jeep Compass heading westbound on 7th Avenue South.
The bicyclist did not have a helmet on and was thrown from the bike.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died that night due to his injuries.
This remains an ongoing investigation.
