DUNEDIN, Fla (WFLA) — Dolphins were spotted playing together and catching fish near Honeymoon Island on Thursday morning.
In video obtained by Sky drones John Yanchoris , dolphins can be seen diving down to catch fish and then throwing them up in the air.
According to an article by Smithsonian Magazine , this is a method called “fish-whacking,” which is a specialized technique for feeding.
This method reduces competition, the article said, particularly for species such as dolphins that partake in group hunting.
