TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A teenage girl is injured following an early morning shooting in Tampa on New Year’s Day, marking the third shooting within four hours in the city.
Just after 1 a.m., Tampa police who were patrolling the downtown area as part of their New Year’s Eve Operation found the victim near North Tampa Street and East Cass Street.

The girl, who was only identified as being a 16-year-old, was shot in the leg. She was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said an altercation broke out between a smaller group and a larger group of juveniles. That’s when the victim was struck by gunfire.
Officials do not believe the incident was related to the incident at Curtis Hixon Park, which left a security guard with a gunshot wound .
