A woman was recently arrested for exploitation of an elderly person in Central Florida.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the woman entrusted with the care of a hospice patient after deputies uncovered a case of financial exploitation.
This month, deputies responded to a delayed fraud report in the 14000 block of Clubhouse Circle in Tampa. The victim, who is receiving hospice care, reported being defrauded by a home health assistant employed to assist with daily needs.
Through investigative means, deputies identified the suspect as 57-year-old Shawn Livingston, an employee of a home healthcare company. Livingston allegedly convinced the victim to use Zelle for service payments and then manipulated the transactions, transferring money to her accounts, paying her creditors, and making payments to Carnival Cruises, ultimately stealing more than $7,000.
