Drone Leads To Arrest Of Man With Machine Gun In Tampa: HCSO

TAMPA, Fla. – A 22-year-old man was arrested after fleeing from deputies who attempted to serve him with a warrant for possession of an operable machine gun, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

The incident occurred on April 3, 2025. Deputies attempted to serve the warrant to Carl Bennett, but the man fled on foot. The HCSO’s drone operator was able to track his movements from the air. The drone operator observed Bennett throw a firearm over a fence.

Ground units were then able to quickly apprehend Bennett and recover the firearm, which was found to be equipped with an automatic switch…
