Concerns grow after recent Gopher Tortoise deaths at Honeymoon Island State Park

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — State officials are investigating after numerous recent gopher tortoise deaths at a popular beach destination.

According to a Florida Department of Environmental Protection spokesperson, Honeymoon Island State Park has recorded several gopher tortoise deaths over the past two weeks, likely due to vehicle strikes.
